With support from many organizations, in September 2003, the Division of Aquatic Resources created the State of Hawaiʻi Aquatic Invasive Species Management Plan that outlines strategies to manage aquatic invasive species. These include coordination, prevention, monitoring/early detection, response/eradication/control, education and outreach, research, and policy. Since 2003, the AIS team has worked on a variety of alien invasive species projects to include alien invasive algae, ballast water/biofouling, marine debris, and a variety of other projects
