Commission On Water Resource Management

(LAHAINA) -- The Commission on Water Resource Management will hold an informational meeting to update the community and address questions on the implementation of amended interim instream flow standards (IIFS) for the surface water hydrological units of Ukumehame, Olowalu, Kaua‘ula on the island of Maui.

The State Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM) will hold public hearings on proposed amendments to its administrative rules pertaining to water use, wells and stream diversion works. These proposed amendments will: increase the maximum fine amount from $1,000 to $5,000 for violations, consistent with the State Water Code; and increase the filing fee for well construction and pump installation from $25 to $300.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is accepting proposals for projects or programs submitted by public or private agencies or organizations to increase water security in the State of Hawaii.

(HONOLULU) – Today the State Board of Land and Natural Resources (BLNR) issued an order directing Alexander & Baldwin, Inc., and East Maui Irrigation Company, Ltd. (collectively A&B) to commence the environmental review process in support of A&B’s application for a lease of water from the license areas of Honomanu, Keana, Huelo and Nahiku.

HONOLULU -- The Parties in the Na Wai ‘Eha Contested Case Hearing on Maui (Hui O Na Wai ‘Eha and Maui Tomorrow Foundation, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Company, Wailuku Water Company, and the County of Maui Department of Water Supply) have reached an agreement with regard to the Amended Interim Instream Flow Standards for Waihe‘e, Waiehu, ‘Iao, and Waikapu streams on Maui.

HONOLULU --- The Commission on Water Resource Management has postponed the Na Wai Eha contested case hearing on Instream Flow Standards until further notice to allow the parties to meet and discuss potential avenues of settlement. Therefore, the hearings scheduled on Maui for this and next week, have been cancelled.

HONOLULU --- The Commission on Water Resource Management (Water Commission) announced today that, for logistical reasons and with the agreement of the parties, the Na Wai Eha contested case hearing on Maui has been postponed from Tuesday March 11, until Monday, March 17, 2014.

HONOLULU –The nominating committee to the State Commission on Water Resource Management will meet at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, March 5, at the Kalanimoku State Office building, located at 1151 Punchbowl Street, Room 227, to review personnel applications to fill a vacant seat on the State Water Commission. The selected nominee will serve a four-year term beginning July 1, 2014.

HONOLULU – The nominating committee for the state Commission on Water Resource Management (Water Commission) is still accepting applications for one (1) position on the commission, starting July 1, 2014. The nominating committee will review the applications and send the names of not less than three qualified individuals to the Governor, who will nominate one person for the vacant position. Appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
