(Hāʻena, Kaua‘i) – The clouds broke, and the rain stopped as 200 Hāʻena and Wainiha residents gathered next to a lo‘i in Hāʻena State Park on Kaua‘i’s north shore on Wednesday for a blessing called “Dawning of a New Day for Hāʻena.” The blessing, which included remarks from Governor David Ige, DLNR Chair Suzanne Case, local community members and a host of lawmakers and state leaders precedes the reopening of Kūhiō Highway and Hāʻena State Park, the gateway to the famed Kalalau Trail in the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park.

(Honolulu) – In the coming days and months it’s going to be hard to avoid the phrase, “Mālama Hawai‘i," when flying, staying in a hotel room, watching TV or enjoying the outdoors throughout the Hawaiian Islands. DLNR and the Hawai‘i Tourism Authority (HTA) have partnered to launch Mālama Hawai‘i, a comprehensive campaign designed to educate and remind visitors and kama‘āina about being respectful of the islands’ natural resources, protecting wildlife, and staying safe at all times while in Hawai‘i.
(Līhuʻe) - Barring bad weather or unforeseen delays in repairs or new management implementation, Hā'ena State Park and the Kalalau Trail in the Nāpali Coast State Wilderness Park will reopen to visitors in early-to-mid June. The official reopening date will be announced in May.
