(HONOLULU) —The State Climate Commission has released three new reports detailing clean transportation investments that promote walking, biking, rolling, and transit across the state, as an integral component to help Hawaiʻi address its climate emergency. Although the electrification of transportation remains an important factor in addressing energy and climate challenges, reducing car travel (or vehicle-miles traveled) through improved clean transportation choices is also an essential strategy.
(LĀHAINĀ, HAWAI‘I) –To the untrained eye, the 150-year-old Banyan Tree in Lāhainā isn’t showing any signs of life. Thousands of leaves on the mammoth tree are scorched but its multiple trunks show little sign of being singed during the August 8 firestorm that devastated this historic, coastal West Maui community.

HONOLULU - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Honolulu District, in partnership with the Hawai‘i Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, is announcing the release of a second Draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (IFR/EA), which identifies a proposed plan for beneficial use of dredged material along the Hale‘iwa Beach Park shoreline, in Hale‘iwa, Island of O‘ahu, Hawai‘i (Figure 1).
(KAHULUI, MAUI) – Underwater search efforts for human remains that began last Saturday, continued today in near-shore waters near the Lāhainā Small Boat Harbor and along the Front Street breakwater.
(WAIHOU SPRINGS FOREST RESERVE, MAUI) – Firefighters with the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) report today that the Olinda Fire in upcountry Maui is now 85% contained.
(HONOLULU) – DLNR is re-deploying First Deputy of the Commission on Water Resource Management (CWRM), Kaleo Manuel, to a different DLNR division. The purpose of this deployment is to permit CWRM and the Department to focus on the necessary work to assist the people of Maui recover from the devastation of wildfires.
