The State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of the 2014-2015 Game Bird Hunting Season on Saturday, November 1, 2014. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Monday, January 19, 2015, with legal hunting days on Saturday, Sunday, and State Holidays. Department biologists are predicting an average season of bird hunting, with the easing of drought conditions in many parts of the state. A December 31, 2007 appellate court ruling determined that no game bird stamp sales are allowed for hunting. A valid hunting license only is required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands. All game bird hunting is regulated by Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 13, Chapter 122 (see https://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw “Administrative Rules”).

It is imperative that hunter applicants obtain and pay particular attention to the hunt instruction sheet and addendum for additional changes in the application process. HILO —The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is issuing permits for control of feral goats in the makai portion —and feral goat and feral sheep in the mauka portion —of the Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a (PWW) Forest Reserve, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,”䅉-123-9, “Nuisance or crop damage.” These programs will be conducted on weekends only, in two phases. Phase 1 will begin Sept. 20, 2014 - Oct. 19, 2014. Phase 2 will begin Feb. 7, 2015 - Mar. 15, 2015.

LIHU‘E -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will conduct a feral goat and feral pig control hunt on Aug.16 and 17 in the Napali Coast State Park –Hunting Unit G. The animal control is necessary for watershed protection purposes, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 (13-123-9).

Pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” the following rules and conditions will be in effect for the hunt:

The areas open to animal control will be between the Ho‘olulu valley (4 miles) and Kalalau valley (11 miles) portions of Hunting Unit G, including Hono o Napali Natural Area Reserve. The animal control is necessary for watershed protection purposes, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 (13-123-9).
