DLNR Accepting Nominations For American Forests’ National Register Of Big Trees

HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is now accepting nominations for the 2014 National Register of Big Trees. Across the United States, the largest trees of their species joined the ranks of the more than 780 national champion trees listed in American Forests’ National Register of Big Trees. More than 40 new champions were crowned across 50 states and the District of Columbia, including 6 new champions in Hawaii.

HILO – Celebrate Arbor Day in Hawaii and “go green” by purchasing and planting a native plant from the Arbor Day plant sale on Friday, November 1 at Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) nurseries on the Big Island.

HILO -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is issuing permits for control of feral goats in the makai portion -- and feral goat and feral sheep in the mauka portion -- of the Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a (PWW) Forest Reserve, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” §13-123-9, “Nuisance or crop damage.” This program will be conducted on weekends, starting Sept. 28, 2013, and ending Oct. 20, 2013.
