Native Hawaiian Plant Month

April 1

A rare native Hawaiian plant

Native Hawaiian Plant Month honors and promotes the importance of Hawaiʻi’s native plants. It highlights the incredible diversity, cultural significance, and ecological value of plants found nowhere else on Earth—many of which are deeply rooted in Hawaiian traditions, language, and way of life.

Meet some of Hawaiʻi’s rarest plant species and visit our Rare Plant Program page to learn about some of the rarest native plants in Hawaiʻi and the people who work to protect them. You can also watch the video below, Cliff Dwellers of Kauaʻi, to see how our botanists with Forestry & Wildlife and the Plant Extinction Prevention Program go to extreme lengths to save Hawaiian plants.
