- 06/29/21-NEW VESSEL TITLING CHANGES BEING IMPLEMENTED(Honolulu) – Recent approved amendments to Hawai’i Administrative Rules (HAR) Chapter 13-241 by Governor David Ige will result in an implementation for new vessel titles by the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR).
- 07/01/21-HAWAI‘I OUTDOOR RECREATION INFO IS OFFICIALLY OUTERSPATIAL(HONOLULU) – A new free application that provides official information on hiking trails, hunting areas statewide debuted today. The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is the latest state agency to adopt the OuterSpatial platform to provide current and official information about trails and other outdoor recreation spots, and hunting seasons, rules, areas, and check-ins/checkouts.
- 07/08/21-MAUNAWILI FALLS TRAIL CLOSED FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECT BEGINNING NEXT WEEK(HONOLULU) – A blessing was held today to mark the beginning of a long-term management plan to protect the Maunawili Falls Trail and the surrounding neighborhoods. The popular trail will be temporarily closed beginning next week on July 15. The closure is expected to be for two years and includes the trailhead near the Maunawili Estates subdivision.
- 07/19/21-WAILOA RIVER STATE RECREATION AREA TO CLOSE TEMPORARILY FOR IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS(Hilo) – The DLNR Division of State Parks, Wailoa River State Recreation Area will be closed temporarily from Thursday July 22nd through Saturday July 24th as dry wells are being installed to prevent flooding in the parking lot. In addition, a water bottle filing station will be installed and portions of the main entry roadway that have deteriorated over time will be repaved.
- 08/25/21-DIAMOND HEAD STATE MONUMENT WILL NOW BE OPEN SEVEN DAYS A WEEK(Honolulu) – Beginning on Wednesday September 1st, Diamond Head State Monument (DHSM) will now be open seven days a week. The hours of operation will remain the same, 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (last hike). Gates will be closed at 6:00 p.m.
- 10/11/21-2021-2022 GAME BIRD HUNTING SEASON OPENS THROUGH JANUARY 2022 (HONOLULU)- The DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the opening of the 2021-2022 Game Bird Hunting Season on Saturday, November 6, 2021. The fall game bird hunting season will run through Sunday, January 30, 2022. To comply with federal mandates, including the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and to meet current state regulations, the last day for hunting mourning dove will be January 16, 2022.
- 10/22/21-NEW KAHALU‘U BAY SURF SCHOOL RULES APPROVED BY STATE LAND BOARD(HONOLULU) – Following an earlier public hearing, and verbal and written testimony submitted by dozens of people, the State Board of Land and Natural Resources voted today to implement amended rules limiting and regulating commercial activity in ocean waters at Kahalu‘u Bay on the Kona coast of Hawai‘i Island.
- 10/23/21-LAND BOARD SUBMITS KĀʻANAPALI BEACH RESTORATION ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT TO GOVERNOR IGE(HONOLULU) – The Board of Land and Natural Resources voted yesterday to submit the Final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Kāʻanapali Beach Restoration and Berm Enhancement project to Governor David Ige.
