Your search found 1424 hits- 01/24/20-CELEBRATING WORLD WETLANDS DAY (Līhuʻe) - Nearly 40 years ago an intergovernmental treaty was signed that provided the framework for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources. World Wetlands Day marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands on February 2, 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar. Each year since 1997, government agencies and community organizations have offered programs aimed at raising awareness about the values and benefits of wetlands.
- 02/28/20-THE HAWAI‘I BIG TREE COMPETITION IS ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE SPRING 2020 SEASON (Honolulu) – As we near the spring season it marks the beginning of the annual Hawai‘i Big Tree Competition. The Big Tree Competition is sponsored by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and nonprofit organization American Forests. This competition aims to spotlight the largest trees of native species recognized in the registry, as well as raise awareness about the importance of healthy trees and forests.
- 04/22/20-WINNERS OF WAHI PANA ESSAY CONTEST ANNOUNCED ON 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF EARTH DAY(Kahului) – While their award trips are being delayed because of the COVID-19 crisis, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is announcing the winners of an essay-writing contest for high school students on this 50th anniversary of Earth Day.
- 05/13/20-KAUA‘I TEMPORARILY ADDS HUNTING DAYS FOR COVID-19 RESPONSE(Līhue) – Kaua‘i hunters are invited to apply for special use permits to hunt goats, pigs, and deer on closed hunting days in State Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves, and Game Management Areas. Usually, most hunting areas on Kaua‘i are open only weekends (Friday-Monday). Beginning on Monday, May 18, people who want to hunt on closed days can submit an online application at www.KauaiForestUsers.com.
- 05/17/20-UPDATE: KAUA‘I TEMPORARILY ADDS HUNTING DAYS FOR COVID-19 RESPONSE(Līhue) – Kaua‘i hunters are invited to apply for Special Use Permits that allow for some additional days of the week to hunt goats, pigs and deer in all existing hunting Units EXCEPT Units A, B and L. Many hunting areas on Kaua‘i are open on weekends (Friday-Monday) only. Beginning Monday May 18, 2020 licensed hunters may hunt more days of the week by submitting an online application at www.KauaiForestUsers.com. Permits will be processed several times a week; not every day due to a lack of staff.
- 06/10/20-KAUA’I AQUATIC RESOURCES STAFF MONITORING SEASONAL CHANGES IN CORAL DISEASE AND REEF HEALTH AT ‘ANINI BAY(Līhuʻe) – One reef monitoring project by the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) staff on Kauaʻi has focused efforts at ʻAnini Reef over the past year. Recently monitoring teams observed signs of recovery since a prolific coral disease was recorded in September-October of 2019.

These lands are now protected in perpetuity thanks to federal, state, and non-profit partners.
