- Coca-Cola Company Volunteers Continue Commitment to Watershed Protection(HONOLULU) – Nine employees of the Coca-Cola Company based in Hawai‘i played hooky from work today. They volunteered on behalf of the Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP) by hiking up a trail on the west side of the mountain range in order to plant native koa. This was a continuation of The Coca-Cola Company’s nationwide commitment to replenish all water it uses in its bottling operations. There are two bottling plants on O‘ahu and last April the company announced it was donating $200,000 to KMWP for ungulate fencing that eventually will surround much of the sprawling Waiawa Watershed, which supplies drinking water to the majority of O‘ahu’s residents.
- 05/17/18 – State Water Commission Fines Maui Company For Unpermitted Construction; Defers Fines on Another Water Violation(HONOLULU) - The Commission on Water Resource Management (Commission), in a public meeting Tuesday, fined the Olowalu Water Company, Inc. (OWC) of Maui the maximum allowable fine of $1,500 (includes $500 administrative fine) for construction of a concrete dam/spillway on the Olowalu Stream without a permit.

BLNR Chairperson William Alia said, "This is an historic action, following years of work by the Haena community in collaboration with Dept. of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) staff. This rules package gives the Haena hui an opportunity to protect its fisheries, based on traditional and customary practices. Native Hawaiians knew how to practice sustainability in order to feed their ohanas. This is strong recognition by government that we cannot do it alone and community-based management and buy-in is critical to sustaining Hawaii's precious natural resources for now and future generations."
