DESCRIPTION:The Wahiawā community in partnership with the Division of State Parks and the Division of Aquatic Resources invites families to picnic while enjoying local entertainment\, engage in fun educational activities\, and explore the Wahiawā reservoir via boat at Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area\, on “Day at the Lake” Saturday\, October 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.\n \nThis year we’re bringing back Day at the Lake\, this event was last held in 2019. Boat rides were a popular activity\, and we’re excited to offer free boat rides again for the community to experience the reservoir\, thanks to the support of the Division of Aquatic Resources and the Wahiawā community. This event is FREE for participants and includes make-and-take projects\, games\, contests\, conservation and sustainability educational activities\, and of course\, boat rides.  The boat ramp and lower lot at Wahiawā Freshwater State Recreation Area will be closed on October 5\, 2024\, for the Day at the Lake Event.\n \nState Parks and the Wahiawā community envisioned connecting residents with the outdoors through engaging events such as the annual Day at the Lake to foster community stewardship and pono outdoor recreation enthusiasts\, garner appreciation of the park and its resources\, and invite communities to come together in their State Parks. \n \nWe hope to see you there!\n \nThere is no charge to participate in this event or for boat rides\, however\, boat rides are first come\, first served\, and on-site registration and waivers are required by all boat riders. Lifejackets are provided and must be worn at all times. Minors must be accompanied by adults on the boats. Boat rides are approximately 40 minutes round trip. DESCRIPTION:Join DLNR State Parks\, in partnership with the Diamond Head Foundation\, Kapiʻolani Community College\, and Kuilei Cliffs on the Lēʻahi Makai Slopes Restoration Project at Diamond Head State Monument\, register for this event at Lēʻahi Diamond Head State Monument: Makai Slopes & Muriel Flanders Community Volunteer Day. \nVolunteers will be working on various tasks along the makai facing slopes of Diamond Head Road\, including weeding\, pruning\, and removing invasive species. Tools and gloves for the workday will be provided\, but volunteers are welcome to bring their personal tools and gloves. If you plan to bring personal tools\, make sure they are labeled and let Parks staff know ahead. \nService work at Lēʻahi\, can be in all types of weather and terrain. Generally\, it can get very hot and dry\, and the terrain is often uneven. Come prepared to work in the sun and do moderate to heavy lifting/carrying. Here are some rules to follow\, and items that all volunteers are required to bring: \n–>> Rules: \n1. Follow all rules of the park while you volunteer \n2. Stay within the designated work area\, and focus on removing targeted species unless specified by Park Ranger or staff \n3. Please be aware of your surroundings\, and other volunteers\, when using tools and while working at this site\, as it is along a road \n4. We want you and other community volunteers to Protect What You Love by participating in a Mauka to Makai State Parks Clean-up.\n \nState Parks is holding a park clean-up at 3 different parks on August 25 to August 27 from 830 AM to 12 PM. \nVolunteers can participate at:\n \nSand Island State Recreation Area (Makai) on Friday\, August 25th\,\nMakiki Valley State Recreation Area (Mauka) on Saturday\, August 26th\, and \nLeʻahi (Diamond Head) State Monument (Kula) on Sunday\, August 27th. \n \nThese parks share the same Kona moku (district) and are adjacent to waterways or shorelines that feed into the larger Māmala Bay waters off Honolulu. To prevent rubbish from entering our waterways and ocean\, and from becoming marine debris\, volunteers will participate in debris removal throughout the parks. How about do both! \nCome out to Keawaʻula\, at the end of the road (Farrington Hwy west) at Kaʻena Point State Park\, this Saturday 6/11 at 8am for a volunteer service hike.  \nVolunteers have been stripping away at the derelict vehicle that has been on the Keawaʻula trail for years. Hike in with other community members to help remove pieces of the vehicle. Cool off at Keawaʻula beach afterwards! \nThis project may not be suitable for minors. The trail and worksite is exposed to the sun without many opportunities for shade\, the cliff trail is also rocky with no restrooms or running water available. Please bring your own work gloves and wear shoes.
