We want you and other community volunteers to Protect What You Love by participating in a Mauka to Makai State Parks Clean-up.\n \nState Parks is holding a park clean-up at 3 different parks on August 25 to August 27 from 830 AM to 12 PM. \nVolunteers can participate at:\n \nSand Island State Recreation Area (Makai) on Friday\, August 25th\,\nMakiki Valley State Recreation Area (Mauka) on Saturday\, August 26th\, and \nLeʻahi (Diamond Head) State Monument (Kula) on Sunday\, August 27th. \n \nThese parks share the same Kona moku (district) and are adjacent to waterways or shorelines that feed into the larger Māmala Bay waters off Honolulu. To prevent rubbish from entering our waterways and ocean\, and from becoming marine debris\, volunteers will participate in debris removal throughout the parks. FREE refillable water bottles will be given to registered volunteers (one per ʻohana) while supplies last.\n \nRegistration Required. How about do both! \nCome out to Keawaʻula\, at the end of the road (Farrington Hwy west) at Kaʻena Point State Park\, this Saturday 6/11 at 8am for a volunteer service hike.  \nVolunteers have been stripping away at the derelict vehicle that has been on the Keawaʻula trail for years. Hike in with other community members to help remove pieces of the vehicle. Cool off at Keawaʻula beach afterwards! \nThis project may not be suitable for minors. The trail and worksite is exposed to the sun without many opportunities for shade\, the cliff trail is also rocky with no restrooms or running water available. Please bring your own work gloves and wear shoes. DESCRIPTION:Join DLNR State Parks and many other local non-profits for a full week of Ocean stewardship\, awareness\, and celebration for Parley Hawaii’s Ocean Week at Wawamalu\, the coastal area between Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline and the east end of Sandy Beach.  \nState Parks and Conservation Council Hawai’i will be leading interpretive hikes into Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline followed by malama aina service work on 5/30\, 5/31\, and 6/2. Each service day is hosted by a different community organization\, also offering information and activities via education booths. DESCRIPTION:Join DLNR State Parks Adopt-A-Park Partner 808 Cleanups\, Division of Forestry and Wildlife\, and The Fish & Wildlife Service in planting native coastal species to expand habitat for the endangered yellow-faced bee. \nWork priorities: Priority 1: Plant Native Coastal specie Priority 2: Invasive species removal \nHow to join: Please send an RSVP email to kekai.k.mar@hawaii.gov \nVolunteer Event Details: \nDate: Tuesday 3/1/22 \nTime: 4pm – 6pm \nWear/Bring:Water\, sturdy shoes or boots\, sun protection and water. Jeans or other work pants recommended for invasive species removal. \nWhat provided: All cleanup tools and supplies\, ice cold water. \nParking: Take the paved driveway down from the highway into the dirt parking area surrounded by boulders. Be careful of uneven terrain and make your way to the barricades where you’ll see the orange 808 Cleanups truck. \nNotice: All ages welcome. Participants under 16 years of age must have a parent or guardian attend for the duration of the activity (we love having them participate as well!)
