KAUA‘I HUNTER EDUCATION PROGRAM CLASS REGISTRATION CLARIFIED
Standby students must call in advance, no walk-ins will be accepted

LIHU‘E — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Hunter Education program, is working to improve class availability and certification options to meet the increased demand for Hunter Education classes on the island of Kaua‘i. Registration for the next available class in October will begin on Monday August 1, 2016.

Registration for open classes will continue, as usual, until classes are filled.  Please refer tohttps://dlnr.hawaii.gov/huntered/classes/ for registration instructions. Once a class on Kaua‘i is filled, subsequent callers will be informed that they have the option to sign up on a standby list for the class. 

In order to improve service to the residents of Kaua‘i and provide a more organized registration process, the Hunter Education program has revised its procedures for accommodating standby enrollment specifically for Kaua‘i.

Effective immediately, for Hunter Education classes on Kaua‘i, all students wishing to register as standbys for classes which have already been filled must call, 1-866-563-4868, to register on a standby list prior to the start date of the class. Students calling to register on the standby list will be limited to registering one (1) additional individual at the time of the call.

Students registering on the standby list will be assigned a number, which will serve as their confirmation (however, courtesy reminders will not be sent to individuals on the waitlist). 

Only those students who have registered on the standby list in advance will be considered for enrollment. However, advance registration on the standby list does not guarantee enrollment in the class. Also, walk-in standbys who have not registered in advance will no longer be accepted at the door.

Only those students who have called to register on the standby list should report to the class location on the first day of the class. Registered standbys should report promptly at 5:45 p.m. No additional standby names will be registered at the door. 

The number of standbys who are actually accepted into the class will be determined by the number of pre-registered students that do not show up for the class, the overall classroom capacity, and the discretion of the master instructor. 

All registered students should report to class on time. Instructors will begin admitting registered standbys at 5:45 p.m. and will continue until the class is filled. Pre-registered students arriving after 6 p.m. may lose their seats to registered standbys.
