IUCN WORLD CONSERVATION CONGRESS 2016 COMMUNICATIONS PLAN

SYNOPSIS

The IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016 in Honolulu, Sept. 1-10, 2016 provides an

unprecedented opportunity for the Hawaii Dept. of Land and Natural Resources to highlight its broad mission of protecting and enhancing cultural and natural resources across the state. This will be accomplished with the roll-out of 20 separate DLNR & You news releases with support from associated news conferences, video news releases, media clips, photographs and subject-matter expert interviews.  DLNR & You is the overall brand the department will utilize,

particularly in relationship to communications products and initiatives associated with funding provided by the Hawaii Tourism Authority.  The IUCN/WCC gives DLNR an opportunity to speak not only to local residents but to spread the monumental mission of the department on a world stage.

PROCESS

A small team of DLNR staff, closely associated with planning DLNR’s role in planning for the WCC met to discuss story ideas and then each person voted on ten stories to pre-release in the days leading up to the congress and then ten stories to reveal during the event.  The following list is largely a reflection of the top vote getters, though the communications office did make a few editorial decisions for production, logistical or timing reasons.
