GUIDING RESTORATION OF HAWAIIAN FISHPONDS

WHAT:  Loko i‘a or Hawaiian fishponds are unique aquaculture systems that exist throughout Hawai‘i and continue to feed and connect communities around the islands.  A growing network of fishpond practitioners and organizations are engaged in restoring fish ponds by leveraging their skills, knowledge and resources related to restoration and management.  The DLNR Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands is releasing a new guidebook on fishpond restoration in time for the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016.  This media opportunity will be in the field during the E Alu Pu global gathering at Ahupuaa O Kahana State Park on O‘ahu’s windward coast.

WHEN: Tuesday, August 30, 10:30 a.m.

WHERE: Huilua Fishpond, at ‘Ahupua‘a o Kahana State Park. Park at the beach parking area and walk to the fishpond on the east side of the bay.
