FOR CORAL BLEACHING IN HAWAI‘I DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING
WHAT: Faced with anticipated impacts again in 2016, following previous episodes of severe coral bleaching events in 2014 and 2015, state marine biologists and their partners are working to develop a coral bleaching recovery plan. Teams from the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources have documented the extent and scope of coral bleaching events in Hawai‘i, both mortality as well as recovery. They are investigating best practices and methods being used around the world to apply these principles to promote coral recovery following mass bleaching events.
