KANEOHE BAY TOUR & CORAL BLEACHING UPDATE

On Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 delegates and press attending the IUCN World Conservation Congress Hawai‘i 2016 will be in the field visiting natural and cultural sites around the state. Local media are invited to join a media excursion by boat to Kaneohe Bay to learn more about the preservation and restoration efforts underway there to protect aquatic resources. Included in this tour is a news conference to reveal key points of the new Hawai‘i Coral Bleaching Action Plan.  Additionally experts and scientists will provide the latest information on the 2016 coral bleaching event.

WHAT:            Media Excursion and News Conference

WHEN:            Sept. 8, 2016

WHERE:         (Full excursion departs from the Hawai‘i Convention Center at 7 a.m. and returns at 1:15 p.m. with ground transportation provided)

(News conference is at 11:00 a.m. at He‘eia Small Boat Harbor)

Media wishing to participate in the full excursion please RSVP to Dan Dennison by COB on Friday, Sept. 2, 2016 at the number listed below.  Please bring rain gear, water, lunch or snacks, swim wear, reef-safe sunscreen (no oxybenzene as an active ingredient), wide brimmed hat, sun glasses, and camera equipment. No RSVP necessary to cover the news conference.
