- DLNR Announces 2016 Black-Tailed Deer Season On Kaua‘iLIHU‘E -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) announces the opening of the black-tailed deer hunting season on the island of Kaua‘i. - Hawaii Bowhunter Education Certification Now Available OnlineHONOLULU -- In order to expand Bowhunter Education certification options in Hawaii, the Hawaii Hunter Education Program within the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement, will begin offering Hawaii residents an online Bowhunter Education course, beginning on July 1, 2016.
- Feral Goat, Sheep, and Pig Hunt and Ungulate Control Program Announced for the Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a Forest ReserveHILO — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the opening of the hunting season in the Pu‘u Wa‘awa‘a Forest Reserve (PWW) Youth and Disabled Hunt and Makai Sections pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting.” DLNR-DOFAW also announces a special Ungulate Control Program for the PWW Mauka section pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” §13-123-9.
- Hunter Education Instructors Recognized For Outstanding Service(Honolulu) – Seventeen Hawaii hunter education instructors were honored today by DLNR Chair Suzanne Case and First Deputy Director Kekoa Kaluhiwa during a service award presentation kicking off Hawaii’s annual instructor meeting. The volunteer instructors, responsible for training youth and adult hunters at 75 classes annually, were recognized with awards for from 50 hours of service to 4500 hours of service. In total, the awards presented today represent more than 20,000 hours of combined, total service.
- 2016 Lanai Mouflon Sheep Hunting SeasonThe State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, is pleased to announce that applications for the 2016 Lanai Mouflon Sheep Hunting Season, together with instruction sheets, will be available at all Division of Forestry and Wildlife Offices Statewide beginning Monday, March 21, 2016.
- Announcement of the Opening of Big Island 2016 Spring Bearded Turkey SeasonThe Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of the 2016 Spring Bearded Turkey Hunting Season on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. The spring season will run for 46 consecutive days through Friday, April 15, 2016. The spring season will be for bearded turkeys only, in locations identified below. The season length, bag limits, and hunting areas are those established in Title 13, Chapter 122, “Rules Regulating Game Bird Hunting, Field Trials and Commercial Shooting Preserves.
- Announcement of the Opening of Archery Hunting in the Puuanahulu Game Management Area for 2016The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces opening of archery hunting in PUUANAHULU GAME MANAGEMENT AREA (GMA) beginning Saturday, March 5, 2016, and continuing on weekends and State Holidays through Sunday, June 26, 2016. Annual closure of the archery season in this GMA will be from July through February. Season length, bag limits, and hunting areas are those established in Title 13, Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting.” The following conditions and restrictions will apply for the hunt:
- DLNR Announces Schedule For 2015-2016 Game Bird Hunting SeasonHONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife announces the opening of the 2015-2016 game bird hunting season on Saturday, November 7, 2015.
- Hawaii’s National Hunting and Fishing Day Recognizes Contributions of Sportsmen and Women(HONOLULU) – One billion dollars – that’s how much hunters and anglers contribute each year in the U.S. toward fish and wildlife conservation programs through taxes on their sport-related purchases. National Hunting and Fishing Day began in 1972 as a way for states to recognize the contributions of sportsmen and women in wildlife conservation and restoration, hunter education and to the shooting sports. For 78 years the Pittman-Robertson Act (American System of Conservation Funding) has imposed a 10.5%-11% federal excise tax on the sale of firearms, handguns, ammunition, archery equipment and accessories. That’s resulted in contributions of $9.24 billion toward wildlife restoration projects, including an allocation to the states of $808 million in 2015.
