The purpose of the Aloha i ke Kai Ocean Stewardship User Fee Program is to direct funding toward action that enhances the health and abundance of our ocean which benefits Hawaiʻi residents and visitors. A healthy ocean is inextricably linked to a thriving economy and our way of life. Collected fees go into the Ocean Stewardship Special Fund. Early spending was initially focused on building and improving our online payment portal.
As revenue grew, it became possible to establish processes to fund stewardship projects.
