The purpose of the Aloha i ke Kai Ocean Stewardship User Fee Program is to direct funding toward action that enhances the health and abundance of our ocean which benefits Hawaiʻi residents and visitors. A healthy ocean is inextricably linked to a thriving economy and our way of life. Collected fees go into the Ocean Stewardship Special Fund. Over $5,900,000 has been collected from ocean users with over $4,700,000 available to be
spent by DAR after 20% is transferred to
the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA)

Commercial operators collect $1 in addition to
their ticket prices and transfer the fees collected
from their customers to DAR each month.

or committed to improve and enhance the
marine environment of Hawai‘i and
support healthy ecosystems

Early spending was initially focused on building and improving
our online payment portal. As revenue grew, it became
possible to establish processes to fund stewardship projects.
