Building Trust Thru Transparency

The DOCARE: Building Trust Thru Transparency workshop was conducted at Kokohead Elementary on Saturday February 25th, 2017.  There were 22 participants who signed-in.  Of the participants, 37% were community, 24% were paddlers, 19% were surfers, 15% were fishers/divers, and 5% commercial operators. The workshop was supported by the DOCARE Administrator, DOCARE Oahu Branch Chief, DOCARE Oahu District I supervisor, 2 officers from the DOCARE Marine Patrol Unit, the DOBOR Oahu district manager, and the State Makai Watch coordinator.

The intent of the workshop was to provide lessons learned from the Makai Watch program, give an overview of the Observation and Incident Reporting (OIR) training, and address questions, issues, concerns, and suggestions provided by the Maunalua Recreational Advisory Council (MRAC) members and their constituents.

During the coordination of the workshop a request for a government record was submitted as part of the Uniform Information Protection Act (UIPA) which basically states that “all government records are open to public inspection unless access is restricted or closed by law”.

To continue to build trust through transparency the information compiled for the UIPA request is now available to the community and public.
