Fire Dip Tanks

This large, 40,000 gallon tank was built in 2015 to serve as a tool against wildfires. In the event of a wildfire in this area, water from this tank will fill the concrete dip tank you see below the parking area. A helicopter can then scoop up the water and drop it where it is needed. Fire is one of the most dangerous risks in this high-elevation dry forest. The heat of the fire can burn off volatile nutrients in the soil, making it very difficult for native trees to re-establish (though easy for non-native grasses to flourish).
