[KAUA’I] UPDATED 4/14/26

The Kalalau trail has REOPENED and the Haʻena Shuttle has RESUMED.

Koke’e State Park camping will be CLOSED for campground improvements. Construction to begin May 2026 and extend through Spring 2027.

Polihale State Park and camping is CLOSED until further notice due to mud and debris removal.

Pāʻulaʻula State Historic Site: CLOSED for construction.

    Description

    NOTE:  AS OF FEBRUARY 2026, PARKING AND ENTRANCE FEES WILL BE REQUIRED TO ENTER WAILUA RIVER STATE PARK. FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE ANNOUNCEMENT. 

    Lush river valley with riverboat cruise (fee charged) to Fern Grotto, an unusual fern-covered cave set in a tropical garden; scenic vistas of attractive waterfalls ‘Opaeka‘a Falls and Wailua Falls) and the Wailua River Valley. The Wailua Complex of Heiau (National Historic Landmark)–remains of heiau (places of worship), pu‘uhonua (places of refuge), and birthstones at this once important seat of chiefly power in old Hawaiʻi. Picnicking in riverside coconut grove; and dining and gift shopping at Wailua Marina.
