Who Is Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project (MKFRP)?

Mauna Kea Forest Restoration Project (MKFRP) is a collaborative project of the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) and the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU). MKFRP focuses on restoring Maunakea’s unique dry forest ecosystem and protecting the critically endangered Palila. Restoration efforts include native out-planting, invasive species removal, ornithological fieldwork, and community outreach. Central to this work is fostering meaningful connections between people, place, and stewardship of Maunakea’s natural and cultural resources.
