Call to Artists! Volcano Art Center’s exhibit Return of ʻAlalā: Restoring the Voice of Hawaiʻi’s Native Forests
Posted on Apr 25, 2016 in News & EventsVolcano Art Center and the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research are proud to announce a statewide Call to Artists: All ‘alalā! Open to Hawai‘i artists, 18 years and older, working in all media who choose to represent the ‘Alalā (Corvus hawaiiensis) in their art work. The exhibit, Return of ‘Alalā: Restoring The Voice Of Hawaii’s Native Forests will celebrate the reintroduction of this ecologically and culturally important species back into Hawai’i’s native forests. The ‘alalā has been extinct in the wild since 2002, preserved only in the program run by San Diego Zoo Global at its bird centers in Hawai‘i. The scheduled release into Hawai’i’s native forests is scheduled September of 2016. This exhibition hopes to raise awareness and funds for this significant conservation effort.

The opening reception will be September 3rd 2016 from 5-7pm at Volcano Art Center Gallery in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Winners will be announced then!
