Keauhou, Kaʻū Community Volunteer Day

Posted on Jul 11, 2018 in News & Events

Join the Three Mountain Alliance and the Na Kiaʻi Kūmokuhāliʻi program in planting native trees at Keauhou, Kaʻū. It is a day to be immersed in the elements of this wahi pana, to meet other like-minded forest folks, and to hug a tree or two… or ten! If you have been to Keauhou before and wanted to bring a loved one or two, this is your opportunity! Keauhou is a special place that many native species utilize and depend upon, including the ʻAlalā!

We want you to know that the safety of our volunteers is a primary concern for the Nā Kiaʻi Kūmokuhāliʻi Program. There has been a lot of activity in the Keauhou ʻili ʻāina, due to Halemaʻumaʻu readjusting its shape and size.  While there are still earthquakes in the area, our main concern is vog. We will be checking weather up until the event and will hold the planting if the moaʻe winds (tradewinds) are present.
