- Concern Grows for Young Monk Seal on Kaua‘iAfter wildlife biologists and veterinarians relocated a 10-month-old Hawaiian monk seal on March 30th from the Lihi Canal in Kapa‘a, to a beach on the island’s west side they’d hoped she would stay away from the canal. Two days ago the seal, identified as RH92, returned to the canal along with an adult seal (RK13). Together they’ve been seen feeding on small fish in the manmade waterway along with discarded fish parts. The return of RH92 to Lihi is prompting stepped-up public awareness and outreach and potentially enforcement of littering laws for fishermen who dispose of fish parts in the water.

- 10/25/13 – DLNR Announces Nov 2 Start To 2013-2014 Game Bird Hunting Season On Hawaii IslandDLNR wildlife biologists are predicting an “average” season of bird hunting, with the easing of drought conditions in many parts of the state. A December 31, 2007 appellate court ruling determined that no game bird stamp sales are allowed for hunting. A valid hunting license only is required for all game bird hunting on public and private lands. All game bird hunting is regulated by Hawaii Administrative Rules Title 13, Chapter 122 (see https://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw “Administrative Rules”).
- 10/25/13 – DLNR Announces The 2014 Lanai Axis Deer Hunting SeasonApplications for all hunts may be submitted in-person or mailed, to the Maui Division of Forestry and Wildlife Office, 54 S. High St., Rm 101, Wailuku, HI 96793. Lanai residents only are to mail or deliver their applications to the Lanai DOFAW Office at 917 Fraser Ave., P.O. Box 630661, Lanai City, HI 96763. The DEADLINE for submitting applications will be 4:00 p.m on Friday December 6, 2013. Interested hunters are encouraged to submit applications well before the application deadline to insure proper processing.

- Hawai‘i Wildlife Conservation Stamp Contest Seeks Entries For 2019-20(Honolulu) –Enthusiastic painters are welcome to submit entries to the DLNR Division of Forestry & Wildlife (DOFAW) in an art contest to depict a game mammal and game bird for its 2019-2020 hunting stamp contest.
The wildlife conservation stamp is a requirement on the Hawai‘i state hunting license and the game bird stamp is required for those intending to hunt game birds. Both stamps will be available to wildlife stamp collectors.
