- DLNR To Conduct Animal Control In Napali Coast State Park On Kauai Aug. 16-17LIHU‘E -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will conduct a feral goat and feral pig control hunt on Aug.16 and 17 in the Napali Coast State Park –Hunting Unit G. The animal control is necessary for watershed protection purposes, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 (13-123-9).

- 10/01/13 – DLNR Plans Lottery For Special Access Feral Cattle Control In Pu‘u ‘O‘o Area Of Hilo Restricted WatershedSelected applicants must confirm acceptance of their assigned hunt period by calling the East Hawai‘i DOFAW office at (808) 974-4221 no later than noon Wednesday preceding their assignment. Permits will be issued and/or validated at the entrance gate into Pu‘u ‘O‘o near the 22 mile marker along Daniel K. Inouye Highway (formerly Saddle Road) on the Saturday morning of the assigned hunt. If selected applicants decline or do not call to confirm by the deadline, then a stand-by group will be chosen from the original list of applicants who were not previously selected. Stand-bys will be notified by phone. No stand-bys waiting at the gates will be allowed.

- DLNR Accelerating Forest Protection To Secure Hawaii’s Water SupplyHONOLULU – More than 140,000 acres of forest lands in Hawaii are now being managed to conserve Hawaii’s forests thanks to funding provided by Governor Abercrombie’s “The Rain Follows the Forest” Watershed Initiative. That number will increase to more than 480,000 acres by the time projects currently funded are completed. The administration’s goal, announced in 2011, is to double the acreage of protected watershed forests in a decade.

- State And County To Conduct Communication Exercise In Nounou Forest Reserve On Kauai, Sept. 10LIHUE – State and County officials will conduct a communications exercise on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2014, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Nounou Forest Reserve, near Kapaa. The exercise involves the Kauai Police and Fire Departments, Kauai County Civil Defense and the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement. They will be testing a portable radio repeater to determine how large of a coverage area they can get from the specific location. The day exercise will lead to the closure of the Nounou mountain trail shelter in the Nounou Forest Reserve.
