Urchins – The Underwater Gardeners of Kaneohe Bay

People from across Oahu and particularly from the greater Kaneohe Bay community are invited to learn more about collector sea urchins planted in the bay to control invasive seaweed.

Scientists and researchers from the Division of Aquatic Resources Anuenue Fisheries Research Hatchery and Super Sucker field team.

Why:
On Thursday, March 27, 2014 the 200,000th sea urchin will be planted in the bay. Learn how these tiny creatures are critical in restoring coral reefs to health. See collector urchins up close and participate in interactive games and events. Talk Story with the men and women who raise the urchins and ultimately release them in the bay to do their underwater gardening.
