- 12/21/23 – HAWAI‘I WILDLIFE CONSERVATION STAMP CONTEST OPENS(HONOLULU) – Artists are welcome to submit entries to the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) in the 2024-25 Hawai‘i Wildlife Conservation and Game Bird Stamp annual art contest. The wildlife conservation stamp is a requirement for Hawai‘i state hunting licensees. The game bird stamp is required for anyone intending to hunt game birds. Both stamps will also be available to stamp collectors.

- 08/18/21-DAR TO HOST VIRTUAL TALK STORY SESSIONS FOR FISHERS BEGINNING NEXT WEEK(Honolulu) – The DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) will begin hosting virtual talk story sessions for interested fishers next week. These sessions, which are already underway on Kaua’i, will now be expanded to include the other islands. The sessions provide an opportunity for fishers and DAR staff to exchange information, concerns, and ideas.
- 10/13/14 – DLNR Includes Waikamoi Extension In State’s Natural Area Partnership ProgramHALEAKALÂ, MAUI –The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) has included a recent 3,721-acre addition to The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Waikamoi Preserve into the State’s Natural Area Partnership Program (NAPP). The DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife offers the program to encourage partnerships for conservation across landowner boundaries. There are over 30,000 acres currently enrolled in the program statewide. The innovative partnership program provides State funds on a two-for-one basis with private funds to protect the privately owned East Maui forest preserve.
- 04/10/19-NEW RELOCATION PROJECT AIMS TO INCREASE HABITAT FOR THE KIWIKIU(Nakula Natural Area Reserve, Maui) – Considered the most threatened among Maui’s honeycreeper family, there are fewer than 300 Kiwikiu (Maui Parrotbill) left in the wild. With its entire population restricted to high elevation, wet, rain forest on windward Maui, Kiwikiu are highly vulnerable to extinction and establishment of a second population on leeward Haleakala is considered by experts to be essential to Kiwikiu recovery.
- 10/03/15 – Volunteers Statewide Learn to Spot Coral BleachingHONOLULU - Hawaii’s unprecedented coral bleaching event this fall prompted dozens of new volunteers to receive training today by the Eyes of the Reef Network (EOR), to spot and report coral bleaching on their local reefs. Billed as Bleachapalozza, today’s statewide training was intended to increase the number of trained volunteers in the water, documenting and reporting bleaching to the network.
- DLNR Asks Public’s Help To Keep Seal Pup Wild And SafeHONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is asking the public to comply with state and federal “no feeding, no approach” rules to protect a Hawaiian monk seal pup that has recently been seen in harbors along Oahu’s south shore.
This 8-month-old seal with red flipper tags N36/N37 was born in May 2013 on the reef runway beach outside of Keehi lagoon. Also known as “U`ilani” (which means royal beauty in Hawaiian), it has recently been seen in Keehi, Kewalo, and Ala Wai small boat harbors interacting with boat owners and resting under the docks. She may also have been seen in Honolulu harbor.
