DLNR HOLDS PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING
ON WATER PROPULSION JET PACKS

HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will hold a public information meeting from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday, July 18, in the DLNR Board room 132 located at 1151 Punchbowl Street, Kalanimoku building, Honolulu, to discuss plans and possible state rules for modified water propulsion jet packs.

Due to concerns raised by the public regarding the use of jet packs (popularly known as JetLev or Flyboards) in Hawaii’s nearshore waters, DLNR is inviting the United States Coast Guard and interested members of the public, including ocean users and current jet pack operators, to meet and discuss usage issues, safety concerns, classification and possible regulation of these jet pack devices..

Water propulsion jet packs consists of a boat unit that delivers pressurized water to an airborne flight unit worn on the user’s back. The boat unit can be manned or unmanned. In addition, the pressure from the flight unit can “fly” an operator up to 30 feet above the water and travel at top speeds of about 32 mph.
