SPECIAL FERAL GOAT HUNTING PERMITS AVAILABLE
FOR KEKAHA GMA ON KAUA‘I

LIHU‘E, KAUA‘I —   The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) announces the availability of feral goat control permits in Hunting Unit A, Kekaha Game Management Area (GMA) on the island of Kaua‘i, pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123-2.2, 5, 5.1 and 9 in “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting.”

Permits will be limited and given on a first-come, first-served basis from the Lihu‘e DOFAW office at 3060 ‘Eiwa St., Rm. 306, Lihu‘e, HI 96766.  Participants must present their 2015-16 Hawai‘i hunting license when acquiring their permit.  

A participant may acquire up to 3 additional permits for other participants, but must present their hunting licenses to do so. 

Hunters will be charged $5 per permit.  Hunters may purchase another permit for another slot after they complete their hunt, if any permits are still available. 

Hunting will be limited to the Kekaha GMA.  There will be 75 permits available for each two-day slot for archery and muzzleload and 25 permits for each two-day slot for rifle. There will be a bag limit of 2 goats (one must be a female) per permit.

Archery only dates (Two-day slots): January 5-7, 12-14, 19-21, and 26-28, 2015.  Archery permits will be available on December 16, 2015, at 8 a.m.

Muzzleload only dates (Two-day slots):  February 2-3, 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24, 2015. Muzzleload permits will be available on January 13, 2016 at 8 a.m.  

Rifle only dates (Two-day slots): March 1-2, 8-9, 15-16, and 22-23, 2015. Rifle permits will be available on February 10, 2016 at 8 a.m.  

Mauka access into the Kekaha GMA will be through Trail 2 road only to Kalepa, Mana and Kolo Ridges. Hunter must sign in and sign out at the Kokee hunting check-in station (HCS).

For makai access, hunters must sign in and out at one of four hunter check-in stations: Pu‘u ‘Opae-Marine Road, Mana Tunnels, Kolo Junction and Pohihale Beach.

Hunters will be allowed to field dress and bone their game and attach the permit to the game bag.

All requirements contained in Chapter 123, “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting” shall apply.
