ROAD PAVING TO CLOSE DIAMOND HEAD TO PUBLIC FOR TWO DAYS
HONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks will close the Diamond Head State Monument to the public on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 11 and 12) to repave the entry road from Diamond Head Road to the Kahala Tunnel.
Only authorized (National Guard, State Civil Defense and other staff that work in the crater) vehicles will be allowed entry during these two days. No public access, by foot or by motor vehicle, will be allowed. DLNR enforcement officers will institute traffic controls at Diamond Head Road.
On Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, the repaved main entrance road will be opened to regular visitor
traffic.
“We thank the public for their patience and cooperation during this work to improve the conditions of the heavily-used Diamond Head crater entrance road,” said William J. Aila, Jr., DLNR chairperson.
Paving work is being done by Road Builders, Corporation, and is part of the larger Linear Park project.
