MOBILE FUEL TRUCK SERVICE TO BEGIN AT ALA WAI SMALL BOAT HARBOR

HONOLULU —  The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) has finalized a month to month agreement with a mobile fuel truck service company, Marine Petroleum Corporation which is expected to begin providing fuel to boaters in Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor starting Saturday, April 6.

The fuel service provider will replace the previous vendor at Ala Wai fuel dock, which announced at the end of February 2013 it would terminate operations by end of March 2013.

“We know that access to fuel is important to the boaters. Despite the short notice DOBOR was able to find another vendor within three weeks to provide new fuel service at the harbor,”said William J. Aila, Jr., DLNR chairperson.

Mobile fuel service at Ala Wai small boat harbor will continue until the fuel dock portion of the larger Honey Bee redevelopment plan that will also include boatyard and repair facility. Start of construction of that project has not yet been announced.

A fuel truck providing non-ethanol and diesel fuel service for vessels only will be available to harbor tenants and transient vessels, at the transient dock located by the old haul out area by the Ala Moana boulevard bridge. Vessels can pull along the transient docks to fuel, starting off on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 11 a.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Payment may be made by credit card (MasterCard or Visa), no cash or checks accepted.

There are more than 700 vessels (sailboats and power boats) in the harbor, including temporarily moored vessels. Three other fueling facility locations are available for boats on Oahu’s south shore, at Keehi Marine Center, Kewalo Basin and at Ko Olina.
