PARKING LOT REPAIRS BEGIN JULY 8 AT MAKENA STATE PARK
KAHULUI — The Department of Land and Natural Resources will begin work on parking lot repairs at Makena State Park starting Monday, July 8. The park will remain open, and work will be conducted in two phases to ensure that parking remains available for visitors.
The first phase involves the regrading and reshaping of 8-foot wide shoulders on both sides of the entry road to the first paved parking lot. Asphalt millings will then be placed and compacted on the shoulders. The bollards along these shoulders will be removed and replaced with galvanized pipe material.
During the second phase, concrete wheel stops will be removed and replaced with plastic stops within both paved parking lots. The parking lot lines and speed bumps will also be painted on both lots. Neither of the two parking lots will be closed at the same time.
For public safety, a security guard will be posted at the parking lot entry gate to inform park users of the parking lot closure and to direct them to other areas of the park that are open for public use.
The cost of the project is $63,977. Project contractor is Vares Contracting. Project completion is expected by July 19, 2013.
