PUBLIC INVITED TO INFORMATION MEETING AT KALAHEO
NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER
ON KIKIAOLA SMALL BOAT HARBOR PROJECTS
LIHUE — The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) is holding a public information meeting next week to discuss the upcoming Kikiaola Small Boat Harbor Sand Bypass System and Breakwater root repair projects.
The meeting is to provide the public with an update on the project, to show the final design, and discuss the project construction schedule. DOBOR has contracted with Oceanit Laboratories, Inc. to prepare plans and specifications for both projects.
The meeting will be held on from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, 4480 Papalina Road, in Kalaheo, Kauai.
In 2009, the Kikiaola harbor federal project was completed. It included: reconstruction of the east breakwater to make it higher and wider, removal of the existing spur at the tip of the breakwater; reconstruction of the outer portion of the west breakwater; dredging a new 700 foot long entrance and access channel.
In 2010, the state completed projects to dredge the inner harbor and replace the wooden marginal pier. Since that time DLNR’s Boating and Ocean Recreation division (DOBOR) has received numerous inquiries from harbor users about what is planned for a sand bypass program.
For more information contact Andrea Kualapai at the main DOBOR office at 587-0175 or Eric Yuasa, DOBOR engineer at (808) 587-0122.
