PUBLIC INVITED TO TWO OPEN HOUSE EVENTS ON
PROPOSED PROJECT TO REDUCE FLOOD RISK IN ALA WAI WATERSHED

HONOLULU – The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) are holding two open house events this month to share preliminary design concepts to mitigate stream flooding within the Ala Wai watershed.

The dates are:

Tuesday, May 20, 2014  5 – 8 p.m.
Manoa Valley District Park
(Enter from Manoa Road)

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 5 – 8 p.m.
Stevenson Middle School Cafeteria
1202 Prospect St.

DLNR and the Army Corps are conducting a study to reduce the flood risk in the Ala Wai watershed, which comprises the sub-watersheds of Makiki, Manoa, and Palolo, in addition to Waikiki.

A short slideshow to introduce the project will be held at 5 p.m. and will be looped throughout the duration of the open house for anyone arriving later. The public will be able to review materials at their leisure on the project purpose and need, methodology and conceptual alternative. DLNR and Army Corps staff, along with consultants CH2M Hill and Townscape, Inc., will be available to record comments and to answer questions about the project and proposed measures.

Anyone with questions about the open house events may call Sherri Hiraoka at Townscape, Inc. at (808) 536-6999, extension 6, or the DLNR Engineering Division in Honolulu at (808) 587-0230.
