MAKENA STATE PARK REOPENS – NO HAZARD FOUND
MAKENA, MAUI — The ‘Pu‘u Olai area (Little Beach) of Makena Beach State Park was reopened today at noon by the DLNR Division of State Parks.
A U.S. Army explosive ordnance detail (EOD) expert determined there was no danger to people after a shock cord was discovered on Tuesday. The cord was a remnant from a rockfall mitigation project in the 1990’s and was non-explosive. They were determined as “spent” and non-threatening.
“Thanks to the military personnel who provided air transport and EOD support to State Parks. We thank the beach and ocean goers for their understanding,” said Clarence Yamamoto, Maui DOCARE branch chief.
