GROUNDED VESSEL AT KOHANAIKI
HAS BEEN REMOVED BY SALVAGE FIRM
KAILUA-KONA, HAWAII — Salvage operations are expected to be completed by tomorrow of the 39’ Coast-Guard registered powerboat “Hoku Kea,” which ran aground Friday evening off Kohanaiki beach, west Hawaii.
According to the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, the vessel was removed from shore on Wednesday. The vessel insurance company directed the salvager to return the vessel to the owner Phillip Hoyle and it is at his location. Salvage firm Cates International is diving the site today and again Friday, if necessary, to remove any remaining pieces of the boat from the water.
