- 01/06/23 – CLIMATE ACTION DAY TO ADVANCE A CLIMATE READY HAWAIʻI(HONOLULU) – Next Monday (Jan. 9) is Climate Action Day in Hawai‘I and will mark the beginning of Hawai‘i Climate Week. The Hawai‘i Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption Commission (Commission) is organizing the State Climate Conference on this day to explore the challenges and solutions of address climate change through discussions on statewide actions.
- 01/05/23 – INPUT SOUGHT ON ADDITION OF NEARLY 100 LAND PARCELS TO RESERVE SYSTEMS AND RULE CHANGES(HONOLULU) – DLNR is seeking comments on a proposal to protect nearly 100 unencumbered State land parcels across Hawai'i as part of the State Forest Reserves, Natural Area Reserves, and Wildlife Sanctuaries systems.
- 01/01/23 – FIRST DAY HIKE AT KAIWI STATE SCENIC SHORELINE ATTRACTS HUNDREDS(Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, O‘ahu) – A little rain fell after sunrise, but the brief shower was a fitting conclusion to the 10th First Day Hike hosted by the DLNR Division of State Parks (DSP).
- 12/30/22 – UPDATED SEA LEVEL RISE VULNERABILITY AND ADAPTATION REPORT RELEASED(HONOLULU) - New science shows increased need for cross jurisdictional coordination, funding, and capacity for sea level rise action as outlined in an updated report by the Hawai‘i State Climate Commission.
- 12/27/22 – CHRISTMAS TREE BONFIRES AT AHU O LAKA ARE ILLEGAL AND DISRESPECTFUL(HONOLULU) – The pro-active education and outreach about the illegal burning of Christmas trees at Ahu O Laka (Kāne‘ohe Bay sandbar), last year was successful. The DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) received no reports of tree burnings in late 2021 or early 2022.
- 12/23/22 – DOCARE RECRUITS DONATE GIFTS FOR TOYS FOR TOTS(HONOLULU) - Tis the season for giving. This holiday season, recruits for the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) Academy Program went the extra mile to connect with their community and boost holiday spirits.
- 12/23/22 – A BIRD NAMED CHRISTMAS HIGHLIGHTS RECOVERY OF ʻAKIAPŌLĀʻAU(Pu‘u Maka‘ala Natural Area Reserve, Hawai‘i) - The fate of several types of Hawaiian honeycreepers hangs in the balance, with the possibility of at least two species going extinct in the very near future.
- 12/21/22 – HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS PROMPT CLOSURE OF FOREST RESERVE ON MAUI(HONOLULU) - Due to hazardous conditions and impassable roads and trails caused by this week’s heavy rains and strong winds, the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) has closed the Waihou Spring Forest Reserve on Maui.
- 12/21/22 – WAIKῙKῙ-DIAMOND HEAD SHORELINE FISHERIES MANAGEMENT AREA TO CLOSE FOR FISHING FOR ONE YEAR(HONOLULU) – The Waikīkī-Diamond Head Shoreline Fisheries Management Area (SFMA), O‘ahu, will be closed to fishing for one year, from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023.
- 12/21/22 – KAIWI SCENIC COASTLINE FIRST DAY HIKE RETURNS AFTER COVID HIATUS(HONOLULU) – As one of the best attended First Day Hike events in the country, the trek to the Makapu‘u Overlook for the first sunrise of 2023 is back.
