HAWAI‘I ISLAND RESIDENTS- Holomua Marine Initiative seeking nominations for Navigation Team members and additional feedback

The Holomua Marine Initiative recently wrapped up a series of Talk Story sessions across Hawai‘i Island in May 2026, where community
management priorities and feedback on the formation of the island Navigation Team(s) were collected. Over 400 residents attended representing fishers, cultural practitioners, and other ocean users to help guide future management discussions for Hawai‘i Island.

The Holomua Marine Initiative brings together community voices, local knowledge, science and resource managers to help shape effective nearshore marine management for each island. Through this Initiative, community-nominated island Navigation Teams comprised of local residents will work with DAR to draft an island-based management proposal that supports sustainable harvesting and healthy reefs.

Nominations for Hawai‘i Island Navigation Team members are currently being accepted, and will stay open until July 31, 2026. Submit
nominations, share your input on the formation of the Navigation Team(s), and any other feedback or management priorities through this form
HERE.
