- 07/19/22 – FORMER FORESTRY PLANNER MOVES INTO KEY CLIMATE CHANGE ROLE(HONOLULU) - The State Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission announced today that Leah Laramee has joined the Commission as ITS new Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Coordinator. Laramee has been acting as the interim coordinator for the past five months and officially took the role yesterday.
- 07/15/22 – MULTIPLE STATE BEACH PARKS TO CLOSE THIS WEEKEND DUE TO IMPENDING STORM(HONOLULU) – Ahead of reports of a historic South Pacific swell bringing high surf and rough ocean conditions over the weekend, several State beach parks along south-facing shores will be closed.
- 07/13/22 – ALA WAI SMALL BOAT HARBOR REPORT PROVIDES VISION FOR DEVELOPMENT(HONOLULU) – Providing insights for future development proposals for the State’s largest small boat harbor is the purpose of the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor Vision Report, prepared by the University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning.
- 07/07/22 – BOATERS ASKED TO JOIN STATEWIDE WATER CONSERVATION EFFORTS(HONOLULU) - The DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) is asking boaters to help conserve water at harbors around Hawaiʻi.
- 07/04/22 – BLUSTERY WEATHER AND ROUGH SEAS CONTRIBUTE TO QUIET WEEKEND AT AHU O LAKA(He’eia Kea Small Boat Harbor, Windward O‘ahu) – White caps in Kāneʻohe Bay, strong winds, and cloudy skies are contributing to a quieter than normal holiday weekend at Ahu o Laka. For the past decade, alcohol has been prohibited at the popular sandbar for the three-day-weekends of Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
- 06/30/22 – DLNR & STATE CLIMATE COMMISSION STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT RULING(HONOLULU) – In support of Gov. David Ige’s statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the W. Virginia v EPA case, DLNR Chair and Hawai‘i Climate Adaptation and Mitigation Commission (Climate Commission) co-chair Suzanne Case said: “It’s unfortunate that this ruling limits the federal government’s ability to act strongly on climate change.
- 06/30/22 – NO ALCOHOL RULE IN PLACE AT AHU o LAKA THIS WEEKEND(HONOLULU) – For more than a decade alcohol has been prohibited at Ahu o Laka (Kāne'ohe sandbar) during summertime, three-day holiday weekends. The rule was instituted after a man died there during a fight in 2011 and following near riots, fueled by booze consumption.
- 06/29/22 – PLUM HARVEST SEASON OPENS SOON AT KŌKEʻE STATE PARK(LĪHUʻE) - The annual plum harvest begins this Saturday at Kōke‘e State Park on Kaua‘i.
- 06/27/22 – FOREST RESERVE ON MAUI REMAINS CLOSED FOLLOWING DECEMBER STORM(KULA) – Access roads and trails in the Kula Forest Reserve remain closed after extensive damage caused by the December 2021 Kona Storm. Unsafe conditions, including washed out gulch crossings and downed trees, have disabled access on the single narrow road that serves the reserve.
- 06/26/22 – PĀLAMANUI DRY FOREST GETS A HELPING HAND FROM DLNR, UH & GOVERNOR IGE(KONA) – Less than a mile upslope from the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, lies the 706-acre Pālamanui Forest Preserve. It is a tropical, dryland forest containing some of the best remaining remnant dry forest in Hawai‘i.
