- 12/4/25 – “MIRACLE HOUSE” LISTED IN THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACESLAHAINA, Maui – The Pioneer Mill Company/Lahaina Ice Company (PMCo/LICo) Bookkeeper’s House in Lahaina, more recently dubbed the “Miracle House” after the August 2023 wildfires on Maui, has been added to the National Register of Historic Places. This recognition highlights the property’s architectural value as well as its contribution to Lahaina’s history and serves as a symbol of the strength and resilience of the people of Maui.
- 12/2/25 – LIMITED COMMERCIAL BOAT OPERATIONS TO RESUME DEC. 15 AT LAHAINA SMALL BOAT HARBORLAHAINA, Hawaiʻi – In a milestone for Maui Nui and Lahaina wildfire recovery, the DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) will resume limited commercial boat operations at Lahaina Small Boat Harbor starting December 15, 2025, for the first time since the August 2023 wildfires.
- 11/26/25 – TWO ʻALALĀ ADDED TO WILD FLOCK ON MAUIKĪPAHULU, Hawai‘i – The pilot project that released five ʻalalā (Hawaiian crows) into the forests of Maui in November of 2024 is taking steps to expand the flock. Two ʻalalā, a male and female, were recently translocated to the field aviary where the first five birds got their start more than a year ago.
- 11/21/25 – FIRST CORALS OF OPPORTUNITY COLLECTED FOR KAUAʻI’S NEW CORAL RESTORATION NURSERYLĪHUʻE, Hawai‘i – The first coral specimens to be housed in the new Kauaʻi Coral Restoration Nursery at Nōmilu Fishpond are now being cared for at the facility that will build local capacity for reef restoration and emergency response. The corals of opportunity, or loose corals that have been dislodged from their parent reefs or damaged from storms, boat groundings, or anchors, were collected by Hoʻomalu Ke Kai, in collaboration with Kauaʻi Ocean Awareness, Kauaʻi Sea Farm, the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), and the University of Hawaiʻi Coral Resilience Lab.
- 11/14/25 – PAVING AND DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS AT KE‘EHI SMALL BOAT HARBOR START NEXT WEEKHONOLULU – A construction project to improve the parking lot at Ke‘ehi Small Boat Harbor will begin next week, Monday, Nov. 17, 2025.
- 10/01/25 – OCTOBER IS STOP THE ANT MONTHHONOLULU – October is Stop the Ant Month in Hawaiʻi and a multi-agency effort throughout the month will encourage residents to collect and submit ants from their properties to help detect and control the spread of invasive little fire ants (LFA) and other harmful pest ants that may be new to the state.

- 9/23/25 – LOCAL ARTISTS SHOWCASE ORIGINAL ARTWORK WITH FOCUS ON CLIMATE CHANGEHONOLULU – Residents and visitors are invited to attend a gallery opening on Oct. 4 that will showcase original artwork focusing on and exploring the urgent realities of climate change. The special exhibit, “Kaiāulu: Rising Together,” will highlight the work of four local artists – Gillian Dueñas, Benjamin Fairfield, Keisha Kanaka and Erin Voss — and will run through the month of October at The Hawaiʻi State Art Museum.
