- 1/10/25 – YEAR OF OUR COMMUNITY FORESTS CELEBRATES WHERE WE LIVE, LEARN, AND PLAY(HONOLULU) – At a signing ceremony today, Governor Josh Green, M.D., proclaimed 2025 as the “Year of Our Community Forests.”
- 1/10/25 – KAUAʻI AVIAN RESCUE AND RESEARCH ORGANIZATIONS MOVING TO SINGLE SITEHONOLULU – The cancellation of a decades-long set-aside of land from the state of Hawai‘i to the County of Kaua‘i has paved the way for Kaua‘i’s renowned forest bird and seabird recovery and protection programs to move into a joint facility.
- 12/18/24 – RARE SNAILS REINTRODUCED AFTER 33 YEARS IN CAPTIVITY(HONOLULU) – The first batch of Achatinella fuscobasis, a rare Hawaiian snail species, was recently released into the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve of the Ko‘olau Mountains on O‘ahu. The release marked a reintroduction to the forest for the species after more than 33 years in captivity.
- 12/13/24 – 25 NEW STATE CONSERVATION OFFICERS COMMISSIONED(HONOLULU) – Twenty-five recruits are now fully commissioned conservation officers with the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE).
- 12/12/24 – LONG-AWAITED POHOIKI DREDGING TO BEGIN IN EARLY 2025HONOLULU — A $9.2 million contract has been awarded to dredge Hawaiʻi Island’s lava-inundated Pohoiki Bay, which will bring relief to the boaters and fishers who have been unable to use the bay’s boat ramp since the eruption of Kīlauea volcano six and a half years ago.
- 12/4/24 – HISTORIC FIRST RELEASE OF ʻALALĀ IN EAST MAUIKĪPAHULU FOREST RESERVE, MAUI, Hawai‘i — Hawaiian crows known as ʻalalā are once again in their rightful place flying free and sounding calls in the forests of Hawai‘i, after a great deal of coordinated effort and planning.
- 12/3/24 – DREDGING COMPLETED AT WAILOA SMALL BOAT HARBORHILO, Hawai‘i – The long-awaited completion of the dredging work at Wailoa Small Boat Harbor in Hilo has finally come for Hawaiʻi Island boaters.
- 10/28/24 – STATEWIDE CELEBRATIONS FOR ARBOR DAY THIS WEEKEND(HONOLULU) – Arbor Day in Hawaiʻi is Nov. 2, a day to honor and celebrate trees where we live, work, learn and play. Communities across the state are hosting a variety of tree-focused events this Saturday with tree giveaways, educational booths, and volunteer tree plantings.
- 10/28/24 – COMMUNITY CLIMATE FAIR COMING TO KAUAʻI NOV. 2(LĪHUʻE) – Kauaʻi residents are encouraged to attend the Community Climate Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kukui Grove Shopping Center in Līhuʻe. The Hawaiʻi State Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission (CCMAC) and several partners are hosting the free, family friendly event that’s a first for the island.
