- 12/20/17 – Hawai‘i Wildlife Conservation Stamp Contest Seeks Entries for 2018-2019HONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW) is seeking entries in an art contest to depict a Game Mammal and Game Bird for its 2018-2019 Hawai‘i Wildlife Conservation and Game Bird Stamp. The conservation stamp is required on the Hawai‘i state hunting license, and the game bird stamp is required for those intending to hunt game birds. Both stamps (differing slightly in text) will be available to wildlife stamp collectors.
- 12/19/17 – Rodenticide Used in Lehua Rat Eradication not Detected in Pilot Whales(HONOLULU) – A report released today by the United States Dept. of Agriculture’s National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) in Fort Collins, CO shows no detectable levels of the rodenticide Diphacinone in the livers of five pilot whales that died on Kaua‘i on Oct. 13, 2017 (two washed onto Kalapaki Beach and three were found floating in Nawailili Harbor).
- 12/12/17 – First Day Hikes In America’s State Parks Offer Invigorating Start To The New Year(HONOLULU) - Make a New Year’s resolution to your health and happiness by kicking off 2018 with an invigorating First Day Hike at Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. On January 1, all 50 states will participate in the seventh annual national event that encourages everyone to celebrate the New Year with a guided outdoor exploration. Of special note this year, the Ontario Provincial Parks have joined the movement in providing First Day Hikes uniting with America’s State Parks, and a number of staff from the National Park Service and local parks departments are also participating.
- 12/11/17 – Advanced Hunter Education Game Care Workshop(HONOLULU) -For the first time ever, the Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Hunter Education Program will be holding an advanced Hunter Education Game Care workshop. Ahead of the Spring game mammal hunting seasons, two simultaneous hands-on workshops will be held on January 13, 2018, from 9:00 am to 1:00pm at Hunter Education classrooms on Oahu and Hawaii Island.

- 12/07/17 – Rockfall Mitigation Work Completed at Diamond Head State MonumentHONOLULU -- A project to remove rockfall hazards along the Diamond Head State Monument summit trail has finished, a week ahead of schedule. The popular trail will reopen for normal day time use, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily tomorrow, Friday, December 8.
- 12/05/17 – Coca-Cola Company Volunteers Continue Commitment to Watershed Protection(HONOLULU) – Nine employees of the Coca-Cola Company based in Hawai‘i played hooky from work today. They volunteered on behalf of the Ko‘olau Mountains Watershed Partnership (KMWP) by hiking up a trail on the west side of the mountain range in order to plant native koa. This was a continuation of The Coca-Cola Company’s nationwide commitment to replenish all water it uses in its bottling operations. There are two bottling plants on O‘ahu and last April the company announced it was donating $200,000 to KMWP for ungulate fencing that eventually will surround much of the sprawling Waiawa Watershed, which supplies drinking water to the majority of O‘ahu’s residents.
- 11/30/17 – Second Community Meeting on Future of Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor to Share Feedback and Gather Programming RecommendationsHONOLULU -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Boating and Ocean Resources (DOBOR), operator of the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor, will host its second public meeting on planning for use of various sites in the harbor.
