- 07/21/15 – Black-Tailed Deer Hunting To Open On Kaua‘iLIHU‘E -- The Department of Land and Natural Resources announces the opening of a black-tailed deer hunting season on the island of Kaua‘i. Pursuant to Title 13, Chapter 123 (13-123-4) “Rules Regulating Game Mammal Hunting,” the following rules and conditions will be in effect:
- 07/21/15 – Hawai‘i Forest Legacy Program Accepting Applications For Conservation Acquisition AssistanceHONOLULU — The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) is seeking new projects for the Hawai‘i Forest Legacy Program that will protect important working forest lands from the threat of conversion to non-forest uses. The Forest Legacy Program, administrated through DLNR’s Division of Forestry and Wildlife, is accepting applications for conservation acquisition assistance through the program.
- 07/21/15 – KALALAU TRAIL CLOSED DUE TO HEAVY RAIN AND FLASH FLOODING CONDITIONSDue to localized heavy rainfall and the potential for flash flooding the DLNR Division of State Parks has closed the Kalalau Trail today to all hikers at 11:30 a.m. It will remain closed for the rest of the day. Anyone already on the trail is advised to not cross flooded streams and remain on high ground until flooding has subsided.

- 07/16/15 – Update On Makapu‘u Trail Closures, Expect Closures for 12 Days in August and SeptemberHONOLULU –The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR), Division of State Parks will postpone planned closures of the Makapu‘u Lighthouse Trail in Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline for trail improvements, until late August and early September. There will be no closures in late July as originally planned on the six-month project, but additional work and a new rockfall mitigation project will delay the completion to September.

- 07/14/15 – Amazing Creatures Move From Ocean To Stream One Tiny Step At A TimeKAHULUI, MAUI – Skippy Hau, an aquatics biologist with the DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) has dedicated much of his career to studying the life cycles and movements of fresh water fishes, shrimp, and snails. Carefully navigating the slippery stream beds and rocks of east and central Maui, Hau has collected reams of data on the movements of five fishes (‘o‘opu), shrimp (‘opae), and snails (hihiwai). “Often we think of taking from the ocean only, but historically people have depended on harvests from freshwater streams for sustenance as well,” Hau explains.
