(HONOLULU) – The Hawaiian monk seal Rocky and her pup (PO8), spent most of this morning in the water. By late morning they’d moved back onto Kaimana Beach to rest, prompting volunteers from Hawaii Marine Animal Response (HMAR) to again change-up their cordon, with ropes and signs to keep people back.

(KONA) – A roughly 1,260-acre parcel in Waiea, on Hawai‘i island has been designated as part of the State Natural Area Reserve (NAR) System managed by the DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW).

This is a government operation to protect public safety and the safety of the monk seals.

(LĪHUʻE) – Calling all artists! Next month, DLNR is partnering with Island Conservation to host an art show focused on the natural beauty, native species, and powerful mana of Lehua Island. Entries will be displayed at the Kauaʻi Society of Artists (KSA) art gallery at Kukui Grove August 12-19. All entries must be submitted by Saturday, August 6. (HONOLULU) - Hawaiian Electric Co. (HECO) has stepped up to help reduce the spread of the Rapid ‘Ōhi‘a Death (ROD) disease on Oʻahu through the design, fabrication, and installation of a new style of boot brush station for trailheads. Sean Moura, Hawaiian Electric wildlife biologist, took an existing boot brush design and modified it to be more inviting and user-friendly.
