Calvin Young is a partner with Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel practicing in the area of litigation. Calvin has extensive litigation experience in multiple areas of substantive law, including professional errors and omissions, product liability, commercial litigation, aviation and mass tort/ personal injury litigation.
He is a past President of the Hawaii State Bar Association (HSBA). He is also a past President of the Hawaii State Bar Foundation. Calvin served six years as a member of the Disciplinary Board of the Hawaii Supreme Court, ten years as a member of the Hawaii Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism and ten years as Chair of the HSBA Professional Responsibility Committee. Calvin recently served as Chair of the HSBA Nominating Committee.
Calvin has been named Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year for Product Liability Litigation – Defendants (2024). He has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® in other areas including commercial litigation, personal injury litigation and product liability litigation. He is listed as one of the leading litigators in Hawaii by Chambers and Partners USA. For many years, Calvin’s Martindale-Hubbell peer review rating is AV Preeminent, the highest rating possible in both legal ability and ethical standards.
He received the Ikena award from HSBA for outstanding service to the public toward legal education in 2012. He was the William S. Richardson School of Law Alumni Association Alumnus of the Year in 2012.
He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Native Hawaiian Bar Association.
Calvin is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools, University of Hawaii (BBA in Finance) and the William S. Richardson School of Law.
Away from the office, he is a member of the Oahu Football Officials Association officiating youth and high school tackle and flag football games. Calvin serves as a Captain of a team of volunteers at the PGA Sony Open and the LPGA Lotte Championship. He is a regular Hawaii Blood Bank donor for the past 47 years with close to 250 whole blood donations.
Calvin lives in downtown Honolulu with his wife Eleanor. Together, they have a son (Justin), three daughters (Sara, Amanda and Katie) and five grandchildren (Olivia, Harper, Penelope, Jordan and Hanna).
