OC 16’s Outside Hawai‘i has launched a new series on marine management in partnership with the Department of Land and Natural Resources, specifically as part of Holomua Marine 30×30 – the statewide initiative that weaves scientific, cultural and community knowledge to ensure healthy and abundant nearshore waters for the people of Hawai‘i.

The mission of the Holomua Marine 30×30 Initiative is to effectively manage Hawaiʻi’s marine resources with at least 30% of each island’s nearshore waters established as marine management areas by 2030.

This segment takes place on the island of Hawai‘i with Ryan Okano, Program Manager at DLNR’s Division of Aquatic Resources, to learn about his background and how it contributes to his work that benefits the resources and community as one.
