With the ending of the 2022 Kauaʻi trout season, we begin to prepare for the 2023 trout fishing season. 25,800 Rainbow trout fingerlings, from Ānuenue Fisheries Research Center on Oʻahu, have been shipped to Kauaʻi on the last 3 days of November 2022. In total, 69 boxes of live fish were sent through Hawaiian Air Cargo. Each day Mark Sueyasu, Fishery Technician, and a group of dedicated volunteers transported approximately 8,500 rainbow trout fingerlings to Puʻu Luʻa reservoir, Kōkeʻe. Mahalo to Mark, the volunteers, and DAR Kauaʻi staff for their work to provide a unique freshwater fishing experience on Kauai.
